Forty Rules of Fantasy

I was reading “The Forty Rules of Love” by Elif Shafak the other day, when i came across a passage which made me almost throw away the book. The passage was:

God is busy with the completion of your work, both outwardly and inwardly. He is fully occupied with you. Every human being is a work in progress that is slowly but inexorably moving toward perfection. We are each an unfinished work of art both waiting and striving to be completed. God deals with each of us separately because humanity is a fine art of skilled penmanship where every single dot is equally important for the entire picture.

Like seriously? Is  everyone is an unfinished masterpiece? How idiotic is this idea. I see people living empty and meaningless lives. Some are a pure burden on the society, whose absence will only make the lives around them better.
I do understand that both good and evil have a part to play in the world, because if there is no evil, there can be no recognition of good. But that is not my point. I am talking about people who are nothing. They do not fit into the “entire picture”, and they never will. And these people are in millions. They die, nobody cares.
German philosopher Nietzsche says:

“You have made your way from worm to man, and much in you is still worm. Once you were apes, and even now, too, man is more ape than any ape.”

Nietzsche calls the common people worms. And i can’t help but agree. Worms is the perfect way to define common people.
The only reason novels like these are so popular is because these worms read these novels and go into a fantasy where they think that their lives matter. They are part of a “Grand Scheme”. A “Master Plan”. But all they are a part of is a rat race. They will have children who will eventually join the rat race. The truth is when they die, they will be mourned for not more than a day. Forgotten in a fortnight.
Some would say that the purpose of life is to love. To find the one. Your soulmate. This is another delusion. What love are we talking about? Love that lasts only months or some years. After sometime you cannot even stand the face of your soulmate.
So many nations have been destroyed before us, what roles do they play in our lives? Nothing. They were worms. The people who really matter are only a handful. Who work to make their lives important. You cannot generalize this idea to the masses.
